Jeden Monat wählen wir eine für Fremdsprachenlehrer besonders nützliche Website aus und stellen sie an dieser Stelle vor.

As a student learning foreign languages I was frustrated at the lack of broadcast media available in the target language. Today, students are spoiled for choice as it seems that every major broadcaster in the world is fighting to place its content online and this, of course, spells very good news for students who want to improve their listening skills. This month, we have chosen the excellent BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) website where almost their entire radio output is available. The following activity uses news programmes but there is an extremely wide range of content available to suit all tastes, levels and age groups.
Level:
Intermediate +
Objectives:
to develop prediction a key skill for listening
to develop listening for specific information
to raise awareness of phrases and collocations
to practise listening to authentic audio
Preparation:
Go to the following link and choose a news or current affairs programme which begins with the news headlines. There are several available.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml
Activities:
1. Put students into pairs with one computer between the two. Get them to navigate to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml and tell them to access the news programme you have chosen.
2. As they listen student A should stop the recording using the pause button at random moments. Student B should try and predict what the next words will be. Then they should listen to check their answers. They should then write the whole phrase down. Halfway through the bulletin, they should swap so that Student B does the pausing.
3. When they have finished, they should spend a few moments looking at the phrases they have written down, checking any unknown vocabulary and noticing any collocations.
4. Now, using the phrases and their collective memories, students should try and recreate the news stories in their own words. The only thing they have to include are the phrases they wrote down.
5. Students should perform their completed news bulletins for the rest of the class who can vote for the best ones. They can finish up by comparing their versions with the real version.
